A GDB — Graded Discussion Board — is a graded activity where Virtual University posts a discussion topic and you submit a short argued response inside the LMS. It looks casual. It is not: GDB marks count toward your final result exactly like a quiz does.
Why GDBs are the easiest marks to lose
- The window is usually just 24 to 48 hours — the shortest of any graded activity.
- There is often exactly one GDB per course per semester, so missing it means losing that entire component.
- No file upload means students underestimate it — then forget it entirely.

Writing a response that scores
Instructors mark GDBs for reasoning, not length. Take a position in the first line, support it with two or three concrete points from the course material, and stop. Copy-pasted or padded answers are the most common reason for zero marks even when submitted on time.
